Evaluation and Data Collection
Program evaluation is crucial to the long-term sustainability of any Medical-Legal Partnership. The goal of this page is to share evaluation techniques so that every Medical-Legal Partnership--no matter its stage of development--can develop an evaluation plan that meets its needs.
There is no single way to go about the evaluation process; different sites approach the task in different ways. Several sites are running rigorous research studies. Others are analyzing data routinely collected during the course of serving clients. The links below provide some examples of methods, tools, and results.
Introductory Core Materials
COX White Paper Series
October 2005
This paper provides best practices and strategies for evaluating medical-legal partnerships. It was written by the New England Regional Medical-Legal Network through the support of the Jessie B. Cox Charitable Trust.
Needs Assessment
Massachusetts Assessment Screening Questionnaire (MASQ)
A questionnaire developed as a screening tool to identify families who might benefit from the services of a medical-legal partnership. This questionnaire can also be used in formative evaluation, providing a means for quickly assessing the legal needs present in a particular setting (community or medical clinic) in which the creation of a new medical-legal partnership is planned.
It was written and validated by David Keller and Nathan Jones of the Family Advocates of Central Massachusetts (FACM). Please acknowledge the authors if you choose to use this instrument.
